winter ipod

here are 5 albums that have been getting serious play on the ipod ever since the snowfall (aka winter albums...if you want to get all perks of being a wallflower):

animal collective - feels
antony and the johnsons - i am a bird now (listened to this one back to back to back to back [4 times] the other day, it was intense)
jens lekman - oh you're so silent jens
sufjan stevens - michigan (i listened to it throughout my entire winter in chicago, it really transports me*)
the wrens - the meadowlands

so yeah, i suggest picking these up, should you get gift cards for the holidays. or you could be like me: just download them and save the gift cards for book purchases. (btw when are they going to make books as easy to download as music and movies??)

*and by transports i mean brings me back to that place in my mind.. i wasn't trying to say that it "moves me" in a non-cliche way. im not that reliant on a thesaurus

ps. i didnt get any pictures this weekend, so my epic return to blogging is going to have to wait until next weekend, or maybe even later... judging on the SIX papers i have to do.

Comments:
In answer to your aside concerning downloadable books, it is relatively easy in many circles to download cracked versions of formerly-DRM'd PDF eBooks. Trouble is, reading a book on your computer just plain sucks -- all the clicking and dragging, the strain on your eyes, and the inferiority of on-screen typography, not to mention lack of portability. eBook reader devices solve clicking and dragging and portability, but they are as easy to lose/have stolen/scratch/drop as an iPod, and cost about as much, and don't even solve the problems of eye strain and inferior typography. Plus you can't bring them into the bathtub. Print books aren't going the way of the purchased compact disc anytime soon.

dammit. whenever I listen to Michigan I'm reminded of the fall of 2003. and for some reason all I can ever remember is being in someone's room and Sandy all of a sudden making out with Drew on his bed

christ.

After several consecutive listens to "Oh You're So Silent Jens," I have determined that his name is in fact pronounced Jens and not Yens.

Also, the Wrens make me feel better about being from New Jersey.

No, you're so wrong. He even says it himself in "Black Cab," "Oh you're so silent, Jens. Well maybe I am, maybe I am."
